The Career Center and The Counseling Center are hosting Hiring Outlook 2026: Maintaining Your Well-Being During a Job Search on March 2, 2026, at 5 p.m. at The Career Center. This session will help guide students who feel uncertain or stressed about today’s job market by sharing facts about the 2026 hiring outlook, industry patterns, practical job search strategies, and ways to maintain health and well-being throughout the process. An A+ opportunity in the education field. The Illinois/EIU Education Career Fair, March 4, 2026, from 1–4 p.m. at the Illini Union, connects students with 85+ schools and education-related employers from central Illinois, the Chicago area, and across the U.S. Open to education students, as well as students from all majors interested in the wide range of possibilities within today’s evolving education field. Registration is encouraged, not required. 

As generative AI continues to shape job searching and hiring, understanding how tools like ChatGPT can be used effectively and ethically is increasingly important. Leveraging Generative AI in Your Job Search, on February 24, 2026, at 12 noon (online), helps students explore the current AI landscape, best practices for using AI throughout the job search, employer perspectives, and emerging trends. In celebration of NIRSA's Recreational Sports and Fitness Day, Campus Recreation is excited to host the first annual Adaptive Rec Day! The first 125 students, faculty, and staff will receive a free tee shirt! Drop in for activities in ARC Gym 2 to learn about adaptive rec by playing alongside U. of I. wheelchair athletes. Activities include wheelchair football at 11am, wheelchair basketball at noon, and sitting volleyball at 2pm. Then, attend an industry panel in ARC MP6 at 1pm. Enjoy free food while listening to a panel of disability experts and adaptive athletes. Everyone is welcome!

U.S. Obliteration of Indigenous Lands During the Cold War: As the Cold War began, the United States expanded its empire in the Pacific. The U.S. took islands for strategic purposes and literally evaporated some of them with nuclear testing. On the continent the U.S. built dams submerging Indigenous lands under water. Within this presentation, Dave Beck, Ph.D., Professor, Department of History, explores the impacts of those events. 

Registration is now open for spring 2026 Mental Health First Aid courses. MHFA is a free, evidence-based training that builds practical skills to recognize and respond to mental health and substance use challenges. Full participation earns a three-year, internationally recognized certification. Courses are offered in person, with additional sessions available later in the semester.
