Don’t be alarmed if you hear an emergency warning siren at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14. The Division of Research Safety has scheduled a siren test at the SMSF at 2006 S. Griffith Dr., Champaign. The International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026 aims to raise awareness of the role of women in agri-food systems and the challenges they face. Brazilian Portuguese is undergoing morphosyntactic change, with differences between spoken and written registers. In a study of 72 monolingual native speakers, higher education was associated with better comprehension and repetition of complex structures, while lower education correlated with more errors. Third-person clitics were the most variable category across all groups, reflecting ongoing language change. The findings suggest that education may play an important role in shaping language use and driving change in Brazilian Portuguese.

Dartmouth College professor Keidrick Roy speaks on the topic of his prize-winning book, "American Dark Age: Racial Feudalism and the Rise of Black Liberalism" (Princeton, 2024), showing how Black intellectuals challenged ideas of “racial feudalism” inspired by the medieval past: a language shared by abolitionists and pro-slavery advocates alike, in the Antebellum period, to describe the origins of American color-based hierarchies. Preparing an elevator pitch regarding your research is crucial for networking, being on the market, and finding a job. In this event, eight students, who are minoring in GRID, GWS, or Queer Studies, have five minutes to present their research. Following that, they will receive feedback from faculty and other graduate students regarding their presentations.

We are seeking women who are planning to have a cesarean delivery or are one week post-cesarean delivery to participate in a mindfulness-based intervention study. The Alcohol Research Lab is looking for social drinkers to participate in a study that examines the effects of alcohol on brain activity as well as social and cognitive processes. Participation involves attending two 4- to 9-hour laboratory sessions and completing physiological and communicative tasks while EEG brain responses are recorded. A referral of at least one same-gender friend is required at the time of sign-up. Up to $250 in compensation.

The Parasol Lab in the Siebel Center for Computer Science is seeking participants for a research study. You will experience interacting with robots in virtual reality and answer survey questions. The Learning and Language Lab is looking for parents to participate with their 3- to 5-year-old-children in an online study to understand how children learn new words. Healthy adults ages 18–40 who have normal hearing but struggle to hear in noisy situations are invited to participate in a research study about hearing (IRB23-0081). Additional eligibility criteria apply. There is a 5-minute online survey to see if you qualify. Those who qualify may participate in up to three lab visits (2–3 hours each). Visits involve a hearing screening, listening tasks, and non-invasive ear and brain measurements. The Nutrition and Exercise Performance Research Group is seeking participants to participate in a 12-week exercise intervention study to investigate the effects of exercise on dietary protein in adults with Type-2 diabetes. Participation in this study involves sampling blood, breath, and urine during two all-day trials, 12 weeks (2-3 times per week) of progressive resistance and aerobic training, and periodic diet recalls. Seeking participants (21-64 year olds) who had a sleeve gastrectomy 1-5 years ago or have not had any bariatric surgeries (control group). Participants must not smoke and drink alcohol at least once a month. There will be blood draws, body composition assessments, alcohol challenge tests, and questionnaires. We are looking for individuals who are committed to or actively working to change their drinking habits to join the 4-week study (surveys and interviews). We study how people interact with information in their daily lives while working to change their drinking. Eligibility criteria include being of legal drinking age, proficient in English, and actively working to either reduce or abstain from alcohol. The Nutrition and Exercise Performance Research Group is recruiting recreationally active adults (19–40 years old) to participate in a 2-day study examining how food combinations affect muscle protein synthesis and whole-body protein utilization. Participation includes four free meals, resistance exercise, muscle biopsies, and blood, breath, and urine sampling across two lab visits.
