The Social & Behavioral Science Institute (SBSI) invites eligible faculty to submit pre-proposals for the Fall 2026 SBSI Interdisciplinary Small Grant Program. Tara Beveroth, INHS, discusses the worldwide decline of bird species and how understanding their needs is crucial to conservation management. More than 50% of North American birds migrate, creating knowledge gaps in our understanding of stopover habitat selection and migratory routes. Long-term bird banding can help address these gaps while also assessing population trends and responses to environmental change. The Alcohol Research Lab is looking for social drinkers to participate in a study that examines the effects of alcohol on brain activity as well as social and cognitive processes. Participation involves attending two 4-9 hour laboratory session and completing physiological and communicative tasks while EEG brain responses are recorded. A referral of at least one same-gender friend is required at the time of sign-up. Up to $250 in compensation.

Help make the Next Alcohol Fitbit! The Alcohol Research Lab is looking for participants for a validation study of transdermal biosensing bracelets, and we will be running sessions over the summer. Participation involves attending three laboratory sessions, wearing at least two transdermal bracelets (on your non-dominant hand), and filling out surveys for two weeks. Up to $400 in compensation for participation.

Researchers from the Department of Health and Kinesiology are recruiting adults aged 50+ for a 2-hour in-person usability study to understand showering needs of aging adults with mobility limitations and seek feedback on an innovative showerhead design. Inclusion criteria: Aged 50 years or older, prefer to shower in a seated position due to mobility or balance concerns, and do not have upper extremity pain or diagnosis of cognitive impairment (e.g., MCI, Alzheimer's). The Nutrition and Exercise Performance Research Group is recruiting recreationally active adults (19–40 years old) to participate in a 2-day study examining how food combinations affect muscle protein synthesis and whole-body protein utilization. Participation includes four free meals, resistance exercise, muscle biopsies, and blood, breath, and urine sampling across two lab visits. The Nutrition and Exercise Performance Research Group is looking for participants to partake in a 2-day study to establish the utility of the indicator amino acid oxidation method in adults. Participation in this study involves 2-day habituation lead in with all meals provided, muscle biopsies, and blood, breath, and urine sampling during all-day trials.
