IHSI is offering up to two buyout awards for interdisciplinary researchers at Illinois seeking center and program-level grants and contracts focused on brain health. The buyout funds are intended to alleviate time constraints associated with teaching, administrative, and service commitments so that researchers may focus on large-scale grant and contract applications with in-kind support from IHSI. The Alcohol Research Lab is looking for social drinkers to participate in a study that examines the effects of alcohol on brain activity as well as social and cognitive processes. Participation involves attending two 4-9 hour laboratory session and completing physiological and communicative tasks while EEG brain responses are recorded. A referral of at least one same-gender friend is required at the time of sign-up. Up to $250 in compensation.

Help make the Next Alcohol Fitbit! The Alcohol Research Lab is looking for participants for a validation study of transdermal biosensing bracelets, and we will be running sessions over the summer. Participation involves attending three laboratory sessions, wearing at least two transdermal bracelets (on your non-dominant hand), and filling out surveys for two weeks. Up to $400 in compensation for participation.

Researchers from the Department of Health and Kinesiology are recruiting adults ages 50 and older for a 2-hour in-person usability study to understand showering needs of aging adults with mobility limitations and seek feedback on an innovative showerhead design. Inclusion criteria: Ages 50 years or older, prefer to shower in a seated position due to mobility or balance concerns, and do not have upper extremity pain or diagnosis of cognitive impairment (e.g., MCI, Alzheimer's). Participation in this study involves collecting blood and muscle samples and completing resistance exercises during two all-day trials (14-16 hours per trial). Healthy adults ages 18-40 with no hearing loss but significant difficulty hearing in noise are invited for a study on listening in noise. There is an online survey to determine eligibility followed by lab visits for those who qualify. Lab visits include hearing screening, listening to sounds, and measuring ear and brain activity. There is a maximum of three lab visits, each lasting 2-3 hours. Compensation for lab visits is paid in cash ($15 per hour). Parking is covered, and mileage is reimbursed ($0.655 per mile, up to a maximum of 37.5 miles per visit). To participate, complete our survey.

The Nutrition and Exercise Performance Research Group is looking for participants to partake in a 2-day study to establish the utility of the indicator amino acid oxidation method in adults. Participation in this study involves 2-day habituation lead in with all meals provided, muscle biopsies, and blood, breath, and urine sampling during two all-day trials. The Nutrition and Exercise Performance Research Group is recruiting recreationally active adults (19–40 years old) to participate in a 2-day study examining how food combinations affect muscle protein synthesis and whole-body protein utilization. Participation includes four free meals, resistance exercise, muscle biopsies, and blood, breath, and urine sampling across two lab visits. Seeking participants (21-64 year olds) who had a sleeve gastrectomy 1-5 years ago or have not had any bariatric surgeries (control group). Interested in how neurostimulation affects emotion, cognition, and brain activity? We are studying the impact of transcranial direct current stimulation on emotional and cognitive processing using computer tasks and MRI. Volunteers ages 18-39 with no history of neurological/psychiatric disorders, implanted medical devices, pregnancy, or psychotropic medications in the last six months are eligible. The study involves two in-person sessions (3-5 days apart) at the Carle and Beckman Institutes, including an MRI scan. Compensation: $20 per hour for tDCS/MRI; $10 per hour for behavioral.
