The Child Development Lab is accepting applications for our Twos Program. Full-day childcare programs for children with birthdates ranging from Sept. 2023 through Aug. 2024. The new CITL Artificial Intelligence Fluency Certificate helps learners move beyond basic chatbot use to build confidence using generative AI thoughtfully and responsibly. Learners personalize the experience by choosing modules on AI literacy, human-AI collaboration, multimodal tools, cognitive impacts, and approved AI electives. Participants who complete the certificate develop practical approaches for using campus-approved AI tools, evaluating output, protecting privacy, and applying AI in ways that support learning, creativity, and professional judgment.

The Brain Evolution and Mental Health Conference aims to bring together scientists and clinicians interested in exploring the brain at a cellular level across the Tree of Life, uncovering evolutionarily conserved and species-specific mechanisms of social behavior, and understanding mechanisms of human mental disorders. Conference sessions will take place all day June 17 and 18, with a public lecture by John Constantino, professor of pediatrics, psychiatry, and behavioral sciences at Emory University School of Medicine, at 4 p.m. June 17 at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center.

The artist Julia Pollack will host a closing talk for the Art of Science 2026 show. This will be the last evening the show will be on display this year. She will speak about the conversations, the research, and the production of the work on display. Pieces for this show were created in partnership with Illinois researchers, whose scientific images were the starting point for these artistic works. From there, Julia Pollack transformed them into the final artwork, guided by conversations with the scientists.

Two more accessibility workshops are coming this week. Registration required. From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. May 26, Make Your Math Accessible covers accessible math formats, tools like EquatIO and MathType, and best practices for delivering accessible math across platforms like Canvas, MS Office, and Jupyter Notebook. From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. May 29, Make Your Excel Spreadsheets Accessible, Part 3 wraps up the series with reading and navigation order, freezing and hiding rows and columns, and using the Accessibility Assistant.

Wildlife rehabilitation is a relatively new field. Dr. Stephany Lewis, clinical professor and zoological medicine director of the Wildlife Medical Clinic, will define and provide an overview of the field of wildlife rehabilitation and discuss the roles wildlife rehabilitation can play in wildlife welfare, conservation, research, education, and public health. The deadline for submitting proposals has been extended to June 30. We invite you to submit original and creative proposals that help improve the ways that we think about global mental health and community well-being. We welcome a wide range of submissions, including traditional scholarly abstracts, as well as creative formats such as artwork, poetry, music, short films, digital storytelling, and other multimedia presentations. This virtual conference aims to create a collaborative space where people with lived experience, caregivers, community members, artists, etc.

Participants needed for research study on effects of aging on brain activity and behavioral performance. Participants must be native English speakers, right-handed, have at least a high school education (or equivalent), and no significant memory issues. Participants will be compensated. The Institute of Communications Research is recruiting adults (18+) for a study on how people perceive and interact with social media content. Participation includes one 30-minute in-person session in Room 043 of Gregory Hall involving a simulated social media feed and a short survey. Healthy adults ages 18-40 with no hearing loss but significant difficulty hearing in noise are invited for a study on listening in noise. There is an online survey to determine eligibility followed by lab visits for those who qualify. Lab visits include hearing screening, listening to sounds, and measuring ear and brain activity. There is a maximum of three lab visits, each lasting 2-3 hours. Compensation for lab visits is paid in cash ($15 per hour). Parking is covered, and mileage is reimbursed ($0.655 per mile, up to a maximum of 37.5 miles per visit). To participate, complete our survey.

The Nutrition and Exercise Performance Research Group is looking for participants to partake in a 2-day study to establish the utility of the indicator amino acid oxidation method in adults. Participation in this study involves 2-day habituation lead in with all meals provided, muscle biopsies, and blood, breath, and urine sampling during two all-day trials. The Nutrition and Exercise Performance Research Group is recruiting recreationally active adults (19–40 years old) to participate in a 2-day study examining how food combinations affect muscle protein synthesis and whole-body protein utilization. Participation includes four free meals, resistance exercise, muscle biopsies, and blood, breath, and urine sampling across two lab visits. People who are considering or working toward changing their drinking behavior are welcome to join the 4-week study. We study how people interact with information as they attempt to change their drinking every day. Eligibility includes being (1.) of legal drinking age and drinking occasionally or frequently, (2.) thinking about or working toward reducing or abstaining from alcohol, and (3.) proficient in English.
