Love and consciousness seem to be different things. But what if appearances mislead us? What if it is precisely the conviction that consciousness is divorced from value, from sociality and from striving for intimacy that gets in the way of making sense of this phenomenon? Philosophy professor Alva Noë, University of California, Berkeley, argues that consciousness is an affair of the heart. Like love, it is bound up with the work of making relationships. And this provides the setting in which he turns to the idea that machines might one day come to think and feel.

In this webinar, Timothy Stark will describe the use of solar evaporation ponds for lithium and other minerals in Chile. In particular, Stark will focus on geomembrane durability in the harsh desert environment after five years of exposure. Durability was assessed by sampling and testing 45 different factory fabricated panels, including seams, that had been exposed in the desert. The results show the 30 million PVC geomembrane still met specifications after five years of exposure. 1.0 PDH.
