Immigrant Student Support has recently released a resource guide for students whose families and loved ones may be impacted by deportation or removal. Because individuals who are impacted may visit a number of different resources across campus for support, this resource encourages staff and faculty to connect students with Immigrant Student Support directly as well as other resources in the guide. ChatGPT Edu Available for Faculty and Staff

ChatGPT Edu licenses are now available for University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign faculty and staff via the WebStore. This university-licensed version of ChatGPT enables you to analyze data, upload and integrate files and create custom GPTs — all within the framework of a secure institutional agreement. The launch of ChatGPT Edu represents a significant milestone in our Boldly IT initiative to strengthen generative artificial intelligence capabilities and support across campus. The educational license version of Chat GPT is approved for Public Data.

Matthew Soener (Sociology, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), "Global Capitalism, Climate Change and Emerging Fault Lines." Making Smell Count: Urban olfactory experience and spatial analysis

In this talk, Qingqing Chen of James Madison University will detail how smells can shape people’s perceptions of urban spaces, positing smell as an important aspect of well-being and sensory richness. Her research consists of interviews across nine New York counties and classifying perceived smells based on geosocial media data. This approach can not only reveal “hidden” neighborhoods with clear spatial patterns, but also capture smells that may otherwise be overlooked. Chen will also propose how this research can help shape identity, policy and urban design. Lunch will be provided!

Finding the Female Voice in the Ancient World

Women have largely been written out of the ancient world. Dealing with the silences of the archive requires new and innovative tools, and in this talk, Emily Hauser surveys the many different approaches she has taken across her fiction and nonfiction writing to recover women: from deep analysis of Greek texts to popular contemporary myth retellings to innovative takes on history that mix fact and fiction to uncover new ways of knowing.

Would you like to help provide a free tax preparation service? The Gies VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program needs community volunteers for our next tax season. Volunteers do NOT prepare tax returns. We need volunteers on-site at Salt and Light in Urbana to greet taxpayers and ensure they have the information needed for accurate tax filings. Join us for a short meeting at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 11, to learn more about the volunteer role at Gies VITA Program! Volunteer shifts are available on weekdays, evenings and on Saturday. Seeking adults with significant difficulty hearing in noise

Healthy adults ages 18-40 with no hearing loss but significant difficulty hearing in noise are invited for a study on listening in noise. There is an online survey to determine eligibility followed by lab visits for those who qualify. Lab visits include hearing screening, listening to sounds and measuring ear and brain activity. There is a maximum of three lab visits, each lasting 2-3 hours. Compensation for lab visits is paid in cash ($15 per hour). The study aims to understand the dynamics of virus shedding, immune function and symptom development during natural respiratory virus infection. If enrolled, you will provide nasal swab samples three times per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and monthly blood draws. The Nutrition and Exercise Performance Research Group is looking for participants to partake in a 2-day study to establish the utility of the indicator amino acid oxidation method in adults. Participation in this study involves 2-day habituation lead in with all meals provided, muscle biopsies and blood, breath and urine sampling during two all-day trials.
