University Fleet Fuel Cards Are Expiring Soon and Need to Be Replaced

All WEX fleet fuel cards issued to campus academic, administrative and auxiliary units will expire on Friday, Oct. 31, regardless of the listed expiration date, and must be replaced. Departments operating university vehicles need to acquire new cards in person at the Garage and Car Pool (1701 South Oak Street, Champaign) before the deadline. Unlocking and Accelerating Physical Activity Opportunities for Vulnerable Children in Brazil: A path towards the sustainable school-based physical activity policy. This Lemann Lecture presents findings from a call to action in Arapiraca, Alagoas, focused on expanding school-based physical activity for low-income children. The project mapped school factors, co-created a local policy through a Delphi process and tested its impact. Results showed that improved environments and physical education instruction significantly increased children’s activity levels.

This Spurlock Sunday activity will take place at Skeuomorph Press, located within the Community Fabrication Laboratory. Farm Aid Exhibit Curator Talk: Destination Champaign - The Roots and Routes

Farm Aid exhibit curator tour

In September 1985, almost 80,000 fans packed Memorial Stadium on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus to hear the first Farm Aid concert. Over 50 musical acts came together to raise awareness of the economic crisis facing American family farms. Tagore Festival 2025

The Annual Tagore Festival commemorates the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's visit to the U. of I. campus in 1912 when he delivered a series of lectures at the Channing Murray Chapel. For the 2025 celebration, there will be a keynote lecture by professor Michele Louro on “India's Anticolonial Struggle from Swadeshi to Independence". Erik McDuffie (African American Studies and History) will discuss his book, "The Second Battle for Africa: Garveyism, the U.S. Heartland, and Global Black Freedom." It's challenging to keep track of all the options available for analyzing grayscale data — and even more challenging to understand what some algorithms actually do. During this tutorial, Jay Cournoyer from the Beckman Institute Visualization Laboratory will run through multiple use-case workflows to demystify some of these processes and show off some of the hidden strengths of widely used programs. NCSA will host William K. M. Lai on Wednesday, Oct. 29, as part of the NCSA Colloquium Series. Lai is a professor in molecular biology, genetics and computational biology at Cornell University. He will present "Poisoning of Networks with Adversarial Particle Swarm Optimization," and focus on Adversarial Particle Swarm Optimization, a new method for creating and studying “poisoned” data — data that can trick or weaken artificial intelligence systems.

Living in Multi-Species Worlds | Juno Salazar Parreñas

Professor Juno Salazar Parreñas (Cornell University) will present "Tropical Polar Bears: A Story of Competing Colonialisms in the Great Acceleration." This paper is based on ongoing archival and ethnographic research in Singapore, Canada and the U.S., examining the dynasty of polar bears who lived in the tropical city-state of Singapore from 1978 to 2018 and what this might teach us about the rapid and exponential changes to our planet during those 40 years.

The Nutrition and Exercise Performance Research Group is looking for participants to partake in a 2-day study to establish the utility of the indicator amino acid oxidation method in adults. Participation in this study involves 2-day habituation lead in with all meals provided, muscle biopsies and blood, breath and urine sampling during two all-day trials.
