Funding Opportunity: U.S. Mission Vietnam Public Diplomacy Section

The U.S. Department of State has announced a competition to submit applications for a grant or cooperative agreement award to showcase U.S. leadership in innovation, education and culture to Vietnamese audiences. Proposals should clearly state how the project will advance U.S. priorities in Vietnam and should include a connection with an American expert, organization or institution in a specific field that will promote understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives. Grants will be offered in the amount of $10K - $35K. You can submit your award to achanoi@state.gov by Aug. 17. Learn more here.

Seed Grants for U.S.–Vietnam Joint Projects

On behalf of IIE, faculty is invited to apply for seed grants (up to $15,000) to support joint projects with Vietnamese institutions in national priority areas: Health Care, Agriculture/Food Security, STEM and Language Acquisition. Proposals must include one U.S. and one Vietnamese partner, with implementation in six months. Submit by Aug. 1 to CIP@iie.org. Illini Union Roof Project Updates

The Illini Union roof project will continue on the west and south sides. Scaffold installation has begun on the West Patio and the South Building. During the installation, all the patio furniture has been removed. The scaffolding will span from the 1st to the 4th floor. Limited access to southeast entryways and full access to the southwest and southeast bike racks will be restored after Aug. 15, once overhead protection is in place. The South Patio will function as a covered passage for the duration of construction.

A New Graduate Scholarship in France

To celebrate 250 years of French-American friendship, the French Embassy in the U.S started the Lafayette Fellowship, a prestigious scholarship program launching in August to assist outstanding American undergraduates in pursuing graduate studies in France. Annually, the fellowship will fund up to 30 American students in STEM, humanities, social sciences and arts for one year of master's study at top French institutions. Fellows will gain leadership development and access to global network. Applications open in late August 2025 for the 2026–2027 academic year. Click here for more details.

The Center for Writing Studies will be offering an online introductory Writing Across the Curriculum Seminar for TAs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 20 and 21. Seeking men and women for paid research participation (IRB #24444)

Seeking participants (21-64 years old) who had a sleeve gastrectomy 1-5 years ago or have not had any bariatric surgeries (control group). Participants must not smoke and drink alcohol at least once a month. There will be blood draws, body composition assessments, alcohol challenge tests and questionnaires. Seeking Men Without Tinnitus for a Research Study

This study aims to develop and validate new methods to diagnose tinnitus (“ringing in the ears”). Men ages 50-70 without tinnitus and with mild to moderate hearing loss are sought. If you’re unsure whether you have hearing loss, you can still join — we will do the testing for you. The study involves a two-hour behavioral session and a four-hour brain wave recording. We are recruiting children for a paid research study focused on how to improve children's speech understanding in noisy environments.
