Are you interested in learning Hindi, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and a key to understanding India’s culture, society and economy? The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is offering an 8-week intensive online Hindi language course from June 16 to August 8, taught by expert instructor Dr. Mithilesh Mishra. The course is open to high school students, college students, professionals and heritage learners. Participants can choose between morning (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) or evening (6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.) sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Designated Officials Training Offered
Individuals who make decisions about facility usage and event scheduling on university property (known in campus policy as Designated Officials) are invited to a special training from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, in Room 2018, Campus Instructional Facility. This training will cover various event safety protocols, risk assessment and risk management, conflict de-escalation techniques, campus facility use policies and additional resources to help navigate hosting events from the facility manager perspective. Help judge the 4-H Show at Parkland College from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, July 11, or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 12. Judging times are separated into 3-hour blocks but often do not take the entire time. Lunch will be provided. 4-H members learn about projects such as Aerospace, Gardening, Art, Welding, Animal Science, Cooking, Robotics and more. Volunteer judges are expected to interview the child about their project and fill out a simple scorecard. Seeking men and women for paid research participation (IRB #24444)
Seeking participants (21-64 year olds) who had a sleeve gastrectomy 1-5 years ago or have not had any bariatric surgeries (control group). Participants must not smoke and drink alcohol at least once a month. There will be blood draws, body composition assessments, alcohol challenge tests and questionnaires. Compensation will be provided (up to $850 upon completion of four visits and free parking). Seeking Preschool Participants
Study on children’s movement and brain health! The PLAY Lab is looking for children finishing preschool and starting kindergarten in the fall to participate in a year-long study. Participation involves attending five laboratory sessions over one year and completing some motor tasks and cognitive tasks some while various brain responses are recorded. Healthy adults ages 18-40 with no hearing loss but significant difficulty hearing in noise are invited for a study on listening in noise. There is an online survey to determine eligibility, followed by lab visits for those who qualify. Lab visits include hearing screening, listening to sounds and measuring ear and brain activity. There is a maximum of three lab visits, each lasting 2-3 hours. Compensation for lab visits is paid in cash ($15 per hour). Parking is covered, and mileage is reimbursed ($0.655 per mile, up to a maximum of 37.5 miles per visit). To participate, complete our survey.
