Image of Research 2024 - Entries due by January 22!

Our graduate and professional students are invited to enter the 2024 Image of Research competition! Students should submit a photo related to their research, scholarship, or creative work and a short (100-200 word) narrative to communicate the connection between the image and their research. Awards are given for first ($500), second ($300), and third place ($200) as well as people’s choice ($100).

Are your students interested in science policy and advocacy?

The university is sponsoring three grad students to attend the 2024 Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering (CASE) workshop from April 14-17 in Washington, D.C. The workshop is hosted by the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS). Travel, lodging, registration, and meals will be covered for those selected. The FIRST Lego League Sectional Tournament will take place January 20th on campus. This event runs on volunteers from across the University community. In-Person Spring Semester Fire Extinguisher Training Sessions

F&S and the Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments will offer fire extinguisher training sessions during the spring semester, starting January 19. The course will include a presentation that introduces participants to the basic elements of fire extinguisher usage, and every attendee will get to extinguish a digitally simulated fire. Each university-approved event will welcome up to 35 participants.

Seeking Children between 7 to 13 years for Paid Research Study

We are recruiting children between 7-13 years to participate in the Liver and Brain (LiBra) study. The LiBra study examines relationships between diet, physical health, and cognitive function. Participation involves 3 visits to Freer Hall and the Beckman Institute. Measures include diet, physical activity, weight status, brain imaging, and a blood draw. Compensation will be provided (up to $200).

6 weeks of aerobic and resistance exercise 3x weekly. Body composition and fitness assessment will be evaluated before and after the 6-week intervention. Recruiting adults between 19-59 years old with a BMI between 25-39 for a 2-week feeding intervention to better understand the effects of dairy milk on muscle health and inflammation.
