COVID-19 Leave and Testing Updates

Have questions related to the COVID-19 Leave and Testing Updates for Spring 2023, click here. The state COVID-19 leave, and its provisions are still in force and employees who qualify for leave are entitled to use it. However, employees who wish to test during their workday must utilize benefit time as they would for any other health appointment. Questions may be directed to ihr-ler@illinois.edu.

REMINDER: Chancellor's Staff Excellence Award (CSEA) Nominations NOW OPEN!

The CSEA Program combines the Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence (CAPE) award and the Chancellor’s Distinguished Staff Award (CDSA) into a unified Chancellor’s staff award program. Nominees are judged on: overall work performance, self-improvement, initiative & creativity, and enhancing the reputation of the department and/or university. New laws in 2023

More than 180 new state laws take effect in 2023, and a number of them relate to public safety and emergency management. You can review a complete list of new laws. In particular, HB 04783, HB 05418, and SB 03833 affect the emergency management and protection of minors functions on campus.

Apply now for a 2023-24 New Frontiers Graduate Fellowship!

The New Frontiers Initiative is calling for applications for its New Frontiers Graduate Fellowships that will run August 2023 through July 2024. The fellowships provide doctoral students with a year of full-time research support, a $38,000 stipend, up to $12,000 in tuition allowance and an allocation of 50,000 hours on NCSA’s Delta computing system. The deadline for applications is March 6, 2023.

Arabic High School Program

The Arabic High School Program for 2023 will take place from June 11 to June 24, 2023. Since 2016, the Summer Institute for the Languages of the Muslim World (SILMW) has opened its doors to motivated high school students for a 2-week intensive Elementary Arabic course. Students will earn 2 college credits as well as a sense of what to expect after graduating high school.

All University Fleet Fuel Cards Will Expire on March 1

All WEX fleet fuel cards issued to campus academic, administrative, and auxiliary units will expire on Wednesday, March 1, regardless of the expiration date listed, and must be replaced. Departments operating university vehicles should acquire new cards at the Garage and Car Pool before the deadline. Research Participation

SCOPE: Soluble Corn Fiber for Promoting Executive Function Study

This study involves adults ages 45-75 years consuming two different supplements daily for two separate four-week periods. Participation involves collection of stool samples and diet records. Participants will complete surveys and computer tasks (over 6 visits of 1.5 to 2.5 hours each) to assess thinking ability. The study will take ~13 weeks total. Compensation of $350 provided upon completion.

We are recruiting children between 7-13 years to participate in the Liver and Brain (LiBra) study. The LiBra study examines relationships between diet, physical health, and cognitive function.
