No Eweek Edition on Dec. 25, 2022 - Reduced Service Week

Eweek does, apparently, sleep sometimes. There will be no Eweek edition on Sunday, Dec. 25, due to the reduced service status of the campus the following week. Publication (and regular deadline) resumes normally with Jan. 1, 2023 edition. Any entries submitted for 12/25 issue have been added to the Jan. 1 edition.

Facilities & Services Operations – Campus Holiday Schedule

Over the upcoming holiday schedule, most shops and departments at F&S will be closed or have limited staff availability. However, personnel will continue to support campus operations and respond to high-priority requests and urgent situations. Please use the my.FS Portal for regular facility-related requests. Holiday Radioactive Materials Delivery Limitations

There will be no deliveries of radioactive materials on campus holidays and gift days. Please adjust your research schedules accordingly.  Do not order materials to be delivered to the Illinois campus on these days (12/23/22 – 1/2/2023). NEW Chancellor's Staff Excellence Award (CSEA) Nominations Now OPEN!

The CSEA Program combines the Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence (CAPE) award and the Chancellor’s Distinguished Staff Award (CDSA) into a unified Chancellor’s staff award program. Nominees are judged on: overall work performance, self-improvement, initiative & creativity, and enhancing the reputation of the department and/or university. The LBGT Resource Center has changed its name to The Gender & Sexuality Resource Center. As an office, our priority is supporting LGBTQIA+, queer, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming students, staff, and faculty. Our center is in the Ilini Union, Room 323(north side).

Volunteer Opportunity with IEI Conversation Partner Program

Looking for a volunteer opportunity while meeting new people and having fun at the same time? The IEI is looking for volunteers to meet with international students for conversation and culture exchange for at least 1 hour a week during the spring (1/25 - 4/28). Weekly meeting times are flexible. You'll be helping students adapt to our campus and you'll learn about another culture at the same time!

Temporary Removal of Boneyard Creek Pedestrian Bridge Near Daniels Hall

Beginning December 19, Facilities & Services crews will remove the Boneyard Creek Pedestrian Bridge, north of Daniels Hall, between Green Street and Springfield Avenue. Repair and reinstallation will take an estimated three to four months. During this time, please use the sidewalk along Gregory Street as an alternate route.

2022-23 Illinois High School Translation Competition

The EU Center invites Illinois high school students to take part in a translation competition featuring Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Polish, Swedish, and Ukrainian. Students will translate an intermediate- to advanced-level text from one of the six languages into English. Heritage speakers are welcome to participate. Open Educational Resources (OER) Grants Available

CARLI seeks grant proposals for the creation of OER for courses (in any subject) that have high enrollment, high textbook costs, and are taught multiple times a year, and can award grants solely to support ancillary materials for OER books as well. Grants of up to $75,000 will be awarded as part of Illinois SCOERs. Applications are due Feb 28, 2023.

EU Center Professional Development Grants (Deadline: Dec. 20)

The European Union Center welcomes applications for EUC Professional Development Grants to support research travel or to present a paper at an academic conference. We can provide funding of up to $500 for domestic conference travel and up to $1,000 for international conference travel. The deadline to apply is Dec. 20. See here for details!

Looking for adults aged 21-64 years with high weight for height to participate in a study into prolonged sitting and how adults think. The study involves 3 visits to Freer Hall, wearing activity monitors, and screening. Measures include cognitive tests, electroencephalography, a body scan, maximal exercise test, and blood draws. This complete feeding study investigates walnut consumption, gut microbes, & metabolism. All meals & snacks are provided for 9 weeks. Blood & fecal donations required. Adults without food allergies/intolerance, metabolic or gastrointestinal disease, or medications that affect the gut are eligible. Compensation up to $1,000.
