The Doctoral Research Support Program is a campus-wide initiative that assists doctoral students enrolled at the University of Illinois. The DRSP team is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment where doctoral students can reflect and thrive in their academic pursuits. We are seeking doctoral students and faculty to work with the DRSP team on event and workshop planning tasks. 

The Career Center invites faculty and campus partners to a Zoom presentation on  August 9, Noon-1pm. Learn the latest about our services and how you can enhance your curriculum by incorporating our guest speakers, resume/cover letter assignments, mock interviews, and more into class.  You are encouraged to register, even if unable to attend- presentation will be recorded and available to download.

You have the power to help Champaign-Urbana’s youth! iRead iCount is a community volunteer program where participants spend one hour/week in local elementary schools working directly with students on basic reading and math skills. Volunteers are needed to help decrease our local achievement gap. Enroll by 8/19 (Champaign) and 8/26 (Urbana) for the fall program. 

As instructors prepare for the Fall semester, please note that the Writers Workshop can support your students in a variety of ways. Beginning Aug. 24, students can schedule an online or in-person appointment to receive writing feedback. Instructors may copy or adapt this syllabus statement. The Workshop provides tailored presentations by request, or visit our calendar for upcoming events.

Vendor applications are being accepted for those wishing to be considered for Allerton Park's Holiday Showcase, which will be Dec. 2-4 in the Allerton Mansion. Applications can be found here. The Showcase will feature the work of talented artisans, a holiday lunch, and more. The outdoor Holiday GLOW lighting show also kicks off on Dec. 2.

The popular Irish Fest returns to Allerton Park's Gatehouse Lawn from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12. Bands will include Broken Brogue and Téada. Donations will be taken at the gate. Food trucks will be on hand, or bring your own meal, along with lawn chairs and blankets. Irish Fest is part of the Allerton Concert Series Presented by the Ayers Family.

Our Spurlock Sunday family event will be a celebration of Japanese chigiri-e. In this artform, artists create pictures by gluing hand-torn pieces of thin, colored paper to a plain background. Completed artworks often resemble watercolor paintings. The program is free and everyone is welcome.

The Provost Office will be hosting open lab hours for Interfolio@Illinois on Tuesday, August 8th from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in W203 Turner Hall. The Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning's Instructional Support Team is hosting two Zoom prep workshops to help you prepare your Canvas or Moodle courses for the Fall 2022 semester. Join us for Workshop 1 on August 10 at 3 p.m. CT or Workshop 2 on August 16 at 3 p.m. CT. We’ll cover the Canvas platform during the first half hour and Moodle during the second half.

We are conducting research on the use of conversational agents (avatars) for health education. You must be 65 years or older and NOT have diabetes. The study takes place at the Illinois McKechnie Family LIFE Home and requires two hour-long sessions on successive days. You will receive a $20 e-gift card for completing both sessions. Would your young teen like to participate in a spicy broccoli consumer test? Compensation will be provided! To be eligible to participate, you must: be of ages 11-17, have parental consent, be available for a 40-min to 1-hour window from now to October, and willing to try spicy vegetables (in reasonable amounts) followed by an ice cream rinse. Looking for adults aged 21-64 years with high weight for height to participate in a study into prolonged sitting and how adults think. The study involves 3 visits to Freer Hall, wearing activity monitors, and screening. Measures include cognitive tests, electroencephalography, a body scan, maximal exercise test, and blood draws. This study involves adults ages 45-75 years consuming two different supplements daily for two separate four-week periods. Participation involves collection of stool samples and diet records. Participants will complete surveys and computer tasks (over 6 visits of 1.5 to 2.5 hours each) to assess thinking ability. The study will take ~13 weeks total. Compensation of $350 provided upon completion.
