Instructors asked to distribute emergency information to students

Emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time. The Division of Public Safety is asking all course instructors to include important safety information in lectures and handouts during the first week of class. A brief script and a one-page handout are available at go.illinois.edu/RHFresources.

iRead iCount Volunteer Opportunity

You have the power to help Champaign-Urbana’s youth! iRead iCount is a community volunteer program where participants spend one hour/week in local elementary schools working directly with students on basic reading and math skills. Volunteers are needed to help decrease our local achievement gap. Enroll by 8/19 (Champaign) and 8/26 (Urbana) for the fall program.

Writers Workshop Resources for Students

Vendor applications for Allerton Holiday Showcase

Vendor applications are being accepted for those wishing to be considered for Allerton Park's Holiday Showcase, which will be Dec. 2-4 in the Allerton Mansion. Applications can be found here. The Showcase will feature the work of talented artisans, a holiday lunch, and more. The outdoor Holiday GLOW lighting show also kicks off on Dec. 2.

Irish Fest at Allerton Aug. 12

The popular Irish Fest returns to Allerton Park's Gatehouse Lawn from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12. Bands will include Broken Brogue and Téada. Donations will be taken at the gate. Food trucks will be on hand, or bring your own meal, along with lawn chairs and blankets. Irish Fest is part of the Allerton Concert Series Presented by the Ayers Family.

Spurlock Sunday: Chigiri-e

Our Spurlock Sunday family event will be a celebration of Japanese chigiri-e. In this artform, artists create pictures by gluing hand-torn pieces of thin, colored paper to a plain background. Completed artworks often resemble watercolor paintings. The program is free and everyone is welcome.

Research Participation

Participate in Health Education Research Study

We are conducting research on the use of conversational agents (avatars) for health education. You must be 65 years or older and NOT have diabetes. The study takes place at the Illinois McKechnie Family LIFE Home and requires two hour-long sessions on successive days. You will receive a $20 e-gift card for completing both sessions. Spicy Vegetable Taste Test

Would your young teen like to participate in a spicy broccoli consumer test? Compensation will be provided! To be eligible to participate, you must: be of ages 11-17, have parental consent, be available for a 40-min to 1-hour window from now to October, and willing to try spicy vegetables (in reasonable amounts) followed by an ice cream rinse. Looking for adults aged 21-64 years with high weight for height to participate in a study into prolonged sitting and how adults think. The study involves 3 visits to Freer Hall, wearing activity monitors, and screening. Measures include cognitive tests, electroencephalography, a body scan, maximal exercise test, and blood draws. Last few weeks to enroll in SCOPE!

This study involves adults ages 45-75 years consuming two different supplements daily for two separate four-week periods. Participation involves collection of stool samples and diet records. Participants will complete surveys and computer tasks (over 6 visits of 1.5 to 2.5 hours each) to assess thinking ability. The study will take ~13 weeks total. Compensation of $350 provided upon completion.
