Zoom now has live transcription feature available

UIUC Zoom members may now use Zoom’s built-in live transcription feature free of charge and with no time restrictions. This feature allows for real-time transcription during meetings, and must be enabled in the user settings. The feature is in beta testing and some users may still need to purchase a separate Otter.ai license to meet accessibility accommodations. Instructions in the link above.

New Library Catalog

The Library’s new catalog launched this summer. It offers the discovery (or, ability to search) and delivery of the Library’s collection of scholarly resources through an enhanced single search interface. Also, the new catalog supports Single Sign-on, so university patrons are able to use their NetID and NetID password to access their account and request materials. Feedback welcome at link above.

A New Bicycle Registration System on Campus

Register your bike in a national database. This semester, the campus transitioned the existing bicycle registration process to Project 529's system, which can broadcast a “Missing Bike Bulletin” to the 529 community and social networks to assist with recovery efforts. “Modeling the COVID-19 epidemic is not rocket science—it’s harder,” notes CAS Physicist and Swanlund Prof. Nigel Goldenfeld, who has helped state officials predict the spread of the pandemic.
