Team Registration Deadline: Monday, November 18, 2024 A revised registration link has been provided: The 4th Annual IWEA Intelligent Water Systems (IWS) Challenge will be hosted in conjunction with the 2025 IWPC Conference (March 17-19, 2025). The purpose of the challenge is to encourage water/wastewater professionals, academic institutions, and college students (both undergraduate and graduate) to develop solutions for real-world environmental problems with the use of advanced data analytics via AI and ML. If you have any questions, please contact Aryan Emaminejad (EmaminejadA@bv.com).

Uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) called Saildrones have been utilized to collect in situ meteorological observations at the air-sea interface in the Arctic, a rapidly changing region where obtaining ground truth data is challenging. Air-sea fluxes of latent and sensible heat are important components of the positive feedback loop involving sea ice melt and higher ocean temperatures. However, little work has been done to validate Arctic fluxes in numerical models with ground truth data. This research compares USV data with forecasts generated by the Global Forecast System (GFS) and Global Ensemble Forecast System (GEFS).
