Library: Library Ceremony, May 5 during lunch

Here be dragons and free books! Attend our end-of-semester celebration at the Dragon’s Lair, where we will be feasting like medieval royalty and awarding the highest library points earners with special prizes to celebrate their bookish boldness. Come one, come all, and use your library points to withdraw NEW prize books from the dragon’s prize book hoard (among other very special goodies sourced by your library staff). Free food, free stuff - don’t miss it! Note: this is replacing the final SLAC-ers Meeting of the year. Sorry!

Library: Community Archives 101, April 21 during lunch

GA Doxey will host a crash course on community archives, teaching us how to use them to access local histories and resources that we might otherwise never see. Students can learn more about who community archives represent, how to engage with them, and when to use them for research.

Illinois Marathon 5k 2026 details

The PE department wants to remind everyone that the Illinois Marathon 5k will be on Friday, April 24. Students are required to participate in a 5k as part of their final for class. Running a 5k has been a part of the PE curriculum for over 40 years! Students have already been registered for the race. Opportunities at Uni

Donate your plastic bottles and paper towel rolls

The Orchestra Outreach Club is running a St. Elmo Brady event all about the fusion of music education and environmental conservation. Plastic bottles and paper towel rolls can be donated for BTW students to create recycled maracas until Friday, April 17. Collection boxes will be located in Uni's stairwells, labeled "OOC BOXES". Your help would be much appreciated!

Seeking Submissions for AAPI Month Poster Contest

MPAG and Uni's Asian American Association are seeking submissions for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May 2026). Please review the poster contest guidelines here before designing your poster. The top three winners will receive $50 prizes. Collaborative submissions are welcome (note that collaborators would split the prize money). Submissions may be created digitally or as physical art pieces (and then scanned with a high resolution).

St. Elmo Brady Day on Monday, Apr. 20

On Monday, April 20, Uni High will be joining Booker T. Washington STEM Academy for a school-wide celebration with a series of Uni-led activities related to water and Earth Day. Uni students will participate in this community outreach day instead of their normal Uni classes on Monday, Apr. 20, and we will have an early dismissal from Uni at 1:45 p.m. This all-school field trip will take place at Booker T. Washington STEM Academy (606 E. Grove St., Champaign) and Douglass Park.

  • Magic Manuscript - Curate your collection with us and request books for permanent acquisition or temporary request using our updated Magic Manuscript. Leave Wally, Doxey, or Claire a note, and they'll chat back and forth with you about how your request is going. Like magic, your desired book will soon appear!
  • Manga Desk Request Special During April's "Drop in and Destress" theme, Wally is highlighting the library's superpower in bringing volumes from big series across campus to you. Drop a request at the desk, let Wally do the sleuthing, and finally finish that long series as an exams reward!

Supervised by GA Wally, Comics Club is a *HOT NEW* self-directed club focused on comix, manga, graphic novels, and zines - and a general love of all things creative and toonin’. We alternate between making and reading projects, but we’re always snacking, chatting, and having a good time. Come hang out, make a style card zine (our current project), pick up a new comic or comics collaborator, and tell us your best/worst take about Spiderman.

Student Thank-You-Note-Writing Competition, April 13-22

In preparation for Teacher Appreciation Week, the PTSA is planning to run another competition among all students to see which class can write the most thank you notes to Uni teachers!  The competition will run from Mon., April 13, to Wed., April 22, in the Uni High Library.  All supplies will be provided at the PTSA's thank-you-note table! Students in the winning class will each receive bragging rights plus a free popsicle at lunch!

ERC Garden T-Shirts for Sale

In conjunction with the planting of Uni's new native mixed prairie garden, the PTSA and Uni's Ecological Restoration Coalition (ERC) are selling ERC t-shirts to students, staff, and parents.  We have some fun garden work days planned (complete with snacks and free raffle prizes) and we'll need lots of volunteers to make this garden a reality!  Everyone is invited to lend a hand — come garden in style with an ERC t-shirt! AP Exams: Documented Absence Request Needed

For students who have individually pursued AP coursework and are taking AP exams this school year: a Documented Absence Request Form is required to be submitted and approved prior to the exam (at least 1 month) in order to excuse the time for the test. No late requests will be approved. 
Students are required to uphold requirements for Uni classes and coordinate any necessary make-ups. 
Per the handbook (pg 49): "Students are required to notify their teachers in advance of them missing class for an AP exam (recommended at least 1 month in advance) and submit a Documented Absence Request Form to the assistant/associate director for approval."

Junior Class Family Party

Juniors and their family members are invited to a Junior Family Class Party on Sat., Apr. 18, from 5-7 pm at the UIUC sand volleyball courts! The PTSA will provide ice water, watermelon, pizza, plates, napkins, and Uni volleyballs; families are invited to bring a snack or dessert to share and should bring their own water bottles. Those attending are also encouraged to bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs as well as sunscreen/bug spray. We hope you can come help us celebrate a fantastic school year!
