PTSA GENERAL MEETING: - The PTSA General Meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2024, in Uni Gym. (Uni Gym is next to the Main Building’s Green Space.)
OPEN HOUSE: - Uni Open House begins at 6:45 p.m.Parents will follow their student’s schedule as listed in PowerSchool for Semester 1. Each class period is 10 minutes followed by a 5-minute passing period (Do not meet: Lunch, Uni Period, Study Halls).
LATE START – THURSDAY, SEPT. 4, 2024: - Classes will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2024, following Open House on Wednesday evening.

We're happy to announce year two of U 'n' I, a new initiative where students can submit their Uni-sponsored community service hours to be recognized at the end of the year. We hope to celebrate the community service we do as a school and encourage more students to participate in volunteering throughout the year. To participate, please complete this form each time you participate in a Uni-sponsored volunteering activity. Students who complete 10+ hours of community service and one reflection will receive a certificate and be invited to an ice cream celebration in May.

To celebrate cultural heritage months in 2025, Uni High and the Multicultural Parent Advisory Group are holding student art competitions. We invite student artists to submit their original art for a 16" x 20" poster. The artists whose posters are selected as the top three submissions will receive monetary prizes, and winning posters will be displayed at Uni during the cultural heritage month for which they were submitted. We are currently seeking submissions for posters for National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sep. 15 - Oct. 15, 2025). Please see the submission form for contest guidelines.

Uni High Athletics updates and this week's home games
Boys soccer won their first match of the season 6-1 against Calvary Christian. The team welcomed back senior Aldo Zepeda, scoring 2' into the game and fellow senior Robert Tu led the team with four goals. The team followed up with a close match losing 3-5 to SJO, Tu led the team with three more goals with two assists from Zepeda and one from junior Lucas Braun. Home Action this week: Tuesday Volleyball at 6 p.m. Thursday Soccer at 4:30 p.m. Saturday Soccer at 10 a.m.

Scholastic Bowl Participation
If you are planning to participate in scholastic bowl, please inform Ms. K (email simpso15@illinois.edu or room 113) or Ms. Smyser (cl40@illinois.edu or room 301) and pay the $200 athletic fee to the main office by Friday, Sept. 5. If you are unable to attend some scholastic bowl practices due to other commitments, discuss this with Ms. K and arrangements will be made. A subbie team with limited meets, but including regionals and state tournaments is possible, but we need to know how many participants we have.

The Writing Center is OPEN
Starting this week, the Writing Center will be open every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon during Uni Period in room 106S. Students at all grade levels are encouraged to bring in writing projects at any stage in the composition process —you will work one-on-one with one of our friendly peer-tutors, who will engage in a detailed conversation about your aims and intentions for your work in progress. And we always have chocolate "writing vitamins" on hand to fuel your peer-editing experience! No appointment is required, but if you'd like to reserve a session in advance, simply email Mr. Mitchell at mtmitch@illinois.edu to make a reservation.

Subbie Retreat
Subbie Retreat is a Uni tradition to help Subbies get to know your class through fun-filled bonding activities planned by the Subbie Buddies. All Subbies, please come to Hessel Park on Monday, Sept. 8 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Transportation will be the responsibility of parents/guardians to and from Hessel. Students should bring a sack lunch, water bottle, and wear comfortable clothing/closed-toe shoes. Please fill out this permission slip beforehand. The form will close on Sept 4 at 10 p.m.
