Black History Month Ballroom Culture and Voguing Event

You may be familiar with Willie's dances during Uni events, but not too many know the history behind the dance style or even the name of the dance! This dance is called Voguing, and its origins come from the Ballroom community, a safe space for queer people of color since the 1860s in Harlem, predating the Harlem Renaissance by over half a century.
Come to Uni Gym on Monday, Feb. 24 during lunch to watch Vogue performances and to learn more about:
• The history of Ballroom
• Different Ballroom categories
• The creation of Vogue
• Important figures in the Ballroom community
Snacks will be provided!

Opportunities at Uni

Ecological Restoration Coalition

The Ecological Restoration Coalition (ERC) is seeking interested students from any grade level. This is a group of students with many interests, but all want to learn more about environmental science and habitat restoration, and volunteer to restore natural areas close to Champaign-Urbana. You will also work and meet experts in these fields working at the university and other organizations.
We meet weekly on Fridays at lunch in room 302.
For more information, contact Mr. Millan.

Extracurriculars

Uni High Athletics

Uni High girls basketball played the final game on the historic Kenney Gym court on Thursday Feb. 13.  The court is believed to be the original flooring; the school will be selling engraved planks after the demolition is completed this spring.  Please watch out for ways to purchase part of the historic court soon.   The girls basketball team was able to pull out a 40-26 win for the last ever game played on the court.  Junior Chizara Onyemere led the way with 23 points and 6 rebounds.   Senior Hannah Song made the final bucket to be recorded on this court with seconds remaining.
