PTSA Coffee Social on Jan. 10
The PTSA invites all parents and guardians to help us kick off spring semester with our second annual coffee social! Please join us on Friday, January 10, from 8-9:15 a.m. in Uni Gym for warm drinks, sweet pastries, and good conversation! The PTSA will provide coffee, tea , hot cocoa, and cups, and we are asking for a few donations of breakfast sweets, creamers, and some set-up and clean-up volunteers. Poetry Out Loud––sign up to compete
Uni's annual Poetry Out Loud recitation contest will be Wed, Jan. 22, 2025, during Uni Period. Poetry Out Loud is a national program with contests at the school-wide, regional, state, and national levels, with a total of $50,000 awarded among finalists at the national contest in Washington, DC. You can sign up to compete at Uni’s contest here. Choose a poem to recite from the long list at http://poetryoutloud.org (in the "find poems" dropdown menu on the left). The deadline to sign up is Tuesday, Jan. 14.

In-class cell phone policy coming Jan. 27
A reminder that Uni will soon have a new in-class cell-phone-use policy for students. The policy will take effect on Monday, Jan. 27, and will continue on a trial basis through the end of the spring semester. Students will not have access to phones during class periods (including breaks) except for instructional purposes and urgent situations. Students will be free to use their phones during passing periods, free periods, lunch, and Uni Period. Phone access included in IEP/504 plans will not be affected.The full policy will be shared in the Jan. 13 UniWeek.

MPAG Sum of Us Book Discussions
MPAG will be hosting discussions of The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together for Uni students, families, and staff on Saturdays, Jan. 11 & 25 from 1:30 - 4 p.m. MPAG will provide refreshments for our discussion. We hope you can join us! Although the discussion is structured around the book, we encourage everyone to attend, even if they didn't read or listen to the book. Our purpose is to gather and engage in learning together. Please see the RSVP form for more details! Email Dr. O'Brien to request a copy of the book.

Multicultural Parent Advisory Group (MPAG) Spring 2025 Meeting Time Poll
MPAG is changing our monthly meeting time to hopefully increase our attendance and ability to serve the Uni community in areas related to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. This year, we're organizing The Sum of Us book discussions, advocating for student racial literacy workshops, supporting poster contests and cultural heritage month events, and providing a space to share DEI concerns. Virtual meetings will be held from 6-7 p.m. If you'd like to join us in planning events in Spring 2025, please note your availability in this form.
