In-class cell phone policy in the works
We are initiating a new in-class cell phone use policy for students, to begin toward the end of January 2025 (date TBA) on a trial basis. This will create a consistent policy for phone use during class (with teacher flexibility for instructional uses of phones) and will allow students to more fully engage in learning during class, without the distractions cell phones can cause. Students will have access to phones during passing periods and lunch, as well as in urgent situations. Phone access included in IEP/504 plans will not be affected. More information to come at the start of January.

Finals Week at the Library
The library will be open throughout finals. Stop by if you need a brain break and enjoy coloring, bracelet making, board games, or playing on the Nintendo Switch! Our fiction and nonfiction rooms will be reserved for silent study, so we request that everyone remain respectful of their noise and activity level throughout the day. We will ask anyone creating significant distractions to leave the library. If additional space is needed for studying, all activities in the front room will be put on pause. Thank you for your understanding!

Health Updates- Still Keep Watch!
Reminder: High levels of contagious respiratory illnesses like Pertussis, RSV, pneumonia, and Covid have persisted in Champaign-Urbana and at the U. of I. in recent weeks (see the recent Director email), and we are seeing cases at Uni. Make sure you are monitoring for symptoms, masking if needed, and checking in with your doctor if symptoms linger or other concerns arise. If you are ill, make sure you are staying home and caring for yourself and your family. Some of these illnesses have vaccines available. We recommend checking to make sure your recommended vaccines are updated.
