UniWeek is Uni's weekly bulletin with information, events, updates, opportunities, and other important school-related information. The bulletin is usually sent on the first school day each week  — typically Mondays.

Poetry Out Loud informational meetings

Uni's annual Poetry Out Loud recitation contest will be Wed, Jan. 22, 2025, during Uni Period. There is an informational meeting tomorrow (Tue, Nov. 12) in room 303 at the start of lunch. Please join us for this 10-min. meeting at the top of the weekly Unique (literary magazine) club meeting.
We'll have a second info meeting Dec. 9 at lunch in 303. You're not required to attend a meeting to participate, but if you haven't done Poetry Out Loud before, it's a good idea to come to one or both.
Details on how to sign up for Poetry Out Loud will be shared in a future UniWeek, so keep your eye out!

S4BW Thanksgiving Food Sale Nov 21

Students for a Better World will be holding its annual Thanksgiving Food Sale on Thursday Nov. 21, with all proceeds going to Eastern Illinois Foodbank. A Thanksgiving dinner plate with turkey, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, desserts, and more will be $8, and desserts will be $1-2.  There are three ways to pay:
cash at the sale; showing a receipt for a donation to the Eastern Illinois Food Bank (donation link), or bringing a minimum of 5 cans/other non-perishable items. If you are interested in bringing food, helping with setup/takedown, or volunteering for this event sign up here.

Uni High Athletics

Congratulations to the Boys Cross Country Team finishing 13th at State Championships led by R. Kimme, L. Fahnestock, K. Schwartz, B. Tang, F. Lee, M. Flynn, A. Dixon.  Freshman Clara Knuston competed as an individual running a PR of 19:21.  Girls Swimming finished 4th at Sectionals.  Emily Dossey got 5th place 200 IM and 6th in100 Breast. Annika Deschler placed 6th in 50 free and 100 free. The 200 Medley Relay of C. Lee, E. Dossey, A. Deschler, and L. Miller placed 5th and the 200 free relay of P. Mudar, E. Dossey, L. Miller, and A. Deshler placed 4th.

On to State!

Congratulations to those Cross Country Runners who qualified to State Championships at Detweiller Park in Peoria. The Boys Team finished third at Sectionals and qualified as a team with runners comprised of Ross Kimme, Luke Fahnestock, Kai Schwartz, Bruce Tang, Felix Lee, Marshall Flynn-Mitchell, and Pieter Duursma.  The Girls team was not able to qualify but Freshman Clara Knuston was able to move on as an Individual.   Good luck to all the runner on Nov. 9.  Go Uni!

Uni's Main Office will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 26 & 27. The office will reopen after Thanksgiving break at 8 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2.

Booster Club

On behalf of the Uni Athletic Boosters, I want to thank the Uni community for supporting us with your donations, car wash donations, and participation in the Uni Apparel Store. We plan to open the store again in February 2025.  Over the summer before the leadership transition, we received many monetary donations; please let us know if you did not get your Uni High magnet as a thank you gift by emailing Alison Smith at aliso22@gmail.com.
