S4BW Flag Football Fundraiser for Daily Bread Soup Kitchen

Students 4 A Better World is holding its first ever flag football tournament on Oct. 25 from 4-6 p.m. in the Uni High green space! All proceeds will be donated to the local Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. 
Make a team with your classmates or stop by to cheer. There will be concessions and face paint! Teams can be made up of 10+ people, and should strive for an equal balance of genders. 
The team entry fee is $5 per person. Team captains should fill out this form by Oct. 23 to secure a spot in the bracket.
Please come help us raise money for the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen.

Opportunities at Uni

Seeking Native American Heritage Month Student Poster Contest submissions

To celebrate cultural heritage months, Uni MPAG is holding a series of student art competitions. We invite students to submit original art for a 16" x 20" poster. The artists whose posters are selected for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will receive a copy of their poster and $75, $50, and $25, respectively. Winning posters will be displayed at Uni.
We are currently seeking submissions for posters for Native American Heritage Month (Nov. 2024). Review contest guidelines and submit your designs here by NOON on Friday, Nov. 1.

Every year, the Uni High SSO sets up a series of field trips to explore career applications of various fields of study on the University of Illinois campus. This year's second Campus Connections field trip will explore the field of Data Science. Signup is limited to 15 students in 9th-12th grades.

Math League

Math League is a monthly math competition that occurs at Uni during Uni Period.  The first competition will occur on Oct. 22. If you participated last year, you do not need to register.  If you are new to Math League, please sign up here. This competition is open to ANY student, including subbies, and is a great competition for students who are new to competitions  You will need your laptop for this individual 30- minute competition. Locations: 9-12 grade in room 206, 8th grade in room 205. Any student with any math experience is welcome; we want to celebrate your successes with you!

Congratulations Subbie Girls Cross Country Team

Congratulations to the girls subbie cross country team for placing 4th at the sectional meet in Normal, IL on Friday Oct. 11.  Janny Knutson placed 5th with a time of 13:50.7 and won a top 10 medal.  Faith Lee was 26th overall with a time of 15:48 and narrowly missed representing Uni at the state meet on Saturday Oct. 19 by 1 runner not on a winning team.  Also finishing their season at sectionals was Frances Burlew, Jiya Borgaonkar, Niveditha Nait, Hyelynn Lee and Brynleigh Riesberg.

Boys Subbie Cross Country Team Results

Congratulations to the boys subbie cross country team for placing 4th at the sectional meet in Normal.  Jax Taylor placed 6th with a time of 12.00 and won a top 10 medal. Joseph To placed 11th with a time of 12:18 and Boyou Huang placed 13th with a time of 12:29.  Because Joseph and Boyou were among the top 7 runners not on a winning team, they will also be representing Uni at the State Meet on Saturday .  Finishing up their seasons were Leo Lamera and Bryan Zhao who missed qualifying for state by 3 and 4 runners not on a winning team respectively, as well as Diken Guevara and Alton Stillwell.

Uni High Athletics

Congratulations to Rishabh Prasanth winning The News-Gazette's boys' Athlete of the Week!  This comes off of Rishabh breaking the school record for single season goals. The team went 16-6 during the regular season and is currently ranked 11th in State for 1A Illinois schools and 3rd in their Sectional that begins on Saturday Oct. 19. Boys Cross Country won the Annual Twin City meet besting Central, Centennial and Urbana for the win.  The boys put six runners in the top 15, led by 2nd place from Ross Kimme and 3rd place from Luke Fahnestock.

ExploraVision meeting (required for participants)

The first official ExploraVision meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 17 during Uni Period, at 3: 20 p.m. in room 301. New participants in ExploraVision should all attend the meeting for explanations of the competition and expectations of teams.  If your team has participated before, send at least one representative.  Come prepared with your team members (teams must be 2-4 members) and your general topic. 
At this meeting, you will be asked to make a commitment and given the opportunity to join a GroupMe for communication.

Reminder: Uni Alum speaking at YMCA Cafe Conversation

Remember to mark your calendars for this Friday, Oct. 18 for the University YMCA Friday Forum + Conversation Café from 12-1 p.m.. Uni alum Jeremy Hobson, (Class of '99), host of the "In the Middle" podcast, will be speaking on the topic of "Giving a Voice to the Middle".
The talk starts shortly after noon and includes a Q&A session. All attendees will receive a free lunch from Y-Thai!

Drs. Tu and Rudolph: The TEAM (Teens and Mothers) Project

We are inviting teenage girls and their moms across the country to be a part of the TEAM Project! This study is to understand teen girls' experiences with other kids and how moms are involved. Moms complete three online sessions and daughters complete two online sessions over a three-month period. Families can earn up to $70 for the study. Please Remind Students About...

We have many students lingering in the buildings after closing or parents waiting for extended times. Remember to check dates and times of building closures!

  • Students and parents should communicate about pick-up times/locations. Make sure you know where to be and when!
  • Students should leave promptly after activities—play practice, sports practices, dances, etc.
  • Students should leave the building when the building closes.
  • Students should not go into random university buildings unless they have permission.
