URAP Research Mentor Application Now Open

The Graduate College invites applications from graduate students and postdocs interested in serving as URAP Mentors in the Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP) during 2024-25. URAP is a valuable professional development opportunity during which you will gain hands-on experience mentoring undergraduate researchers. Graduate students and postdocs in any field are welcome to apply. Applications are due June 20. Learn more about the program at the link above.

Summer Health Coverage for Graduate Students

Beginning this year, the Student Health Insurance Office will manage the process for graduate students who are requesting extensions of their insurance coverage. All extension requests will be processed via an online form on the Student Health Insurance website. McKinley services can also be selected on the same form. The form is available during the summer Enrollment/Waiver Period. Graduate Students with waiver-generating appointments who will not enroll in courses during the summer but want summer health insurance and McKinley/Counseling center services should be sure to complete the form.

Preliminary and Final Exam Submission Guide

If you are taking a preliminary or final exam this semester, make sure to start the committee appointment process through the Graduate College Student Portal. Once you've completed your request, it will be sent to your department for review and submission to the Graduate College. You can learn more and committee policies and access tutorials for the student portal on the Graduate College website.

If you are taking a preliminary or final exam this semester, make sure that you submit your request through the Graduate College Student Portal at least THREE WEEKS BEFORE your exam will take place. Mentoring Matters Summer Institute: Registration Now Open

The Mentoring Matters Summer Institute is a 2-day, interactive event to support the development of strong mentoring skills. In addition to keynote addresses for all participants, the institute will feature a special track for graduate students. Grad students will collaborate with one another and with experts to identify effective mentoring practices, learn strategies for strengthening your own network of mentors, and develop your skills as a mentor. The focus will be on mentoring in a higher education context, especially in research settings. Learn more and register.

Digitizing in 3 Dimensions

Learn how to scan historic objects with your cell phone in this hands-on workshop! We’ll provide a jargon-free overview of how AI builds three dimensional objects and discuss copyright, best practices, and library support for 3D modeling. The workshop will conclude with a demonstration of Polycam, a cell-phone based tool that can create 3D models and AR views of cultural heritage objects. In person participants will have an opportunity to handle 3D replicas of objects from the David Livingstone Birthplace Museum in Blantyre, Scotland thanks to a recent collaboration with the IDEA Lab.
